The service center in Moshi is the first center of Viafrica in Africa. The service center is setup by a former volunteer of Viafrica who moved to Tanzania. He recruited two ICT professionals and trained them further on Open Source Software, CLASSworks, training and maintenance. At this moment the center is operationally run by the two Tanzanian employees and we are aiming to have this center completely sustainable in 2007. In 2006 Liesbeth Hofs joined the Service Center. Her job is to describe and polish the often implicit procedures that we follow. Furthermore she assists in the legal setup of the center and prepares a businessmodel for this center, that is also usable for future centers.
The center is responsible for CLASSworks in the Kilimanjaro region and offers service contracts to schools. The current activities include guidance of schools to participate in the CLASSworks programme, implementations of computer rooms, teacher training, seminars for school management and maintenance.
The service center in Moshi serves as a pilot center for further developments and knowledge source for other centers, like the Kisii center in Kenya.
