Helpalot - charities we trust

Help

What does Helpalot do?

We want to make it easy to find trustworthy charity projects.

While big charities are all findable online, there was no place to find small charity initiatives and have information on their competence and good intentions. Many have knowledge they would like to share, Helpalot tries to make this information accessible and transparent for all.

How is Helpalot financed?

For now, it's by donators, like Herman Wiegerinck. It is very likely that in the future company pages can have a Friend of Helpalot icon on their page if they donate to Helpalot. We have not yet implemented company pages.

Wat we will not do

- We will not put ads on the site. We don't like ads on other sites, so we will not put them on our own.
- We will not accept money from charities to get a premium spot on Helpalot. We don't want charities with a big media budgets to get a head start.
- We will not take a percentage from your donations to keep the site running. We are working on implementing donations and different models on how to best incorporate this. We don't want to take money from charities or charity supporters, we want to deliver a service, not an extra hurdle for people to take.

What are charities?

On Helpalot, every organization that has the intention to improve the world is a charity.

Manager
Every charitypage has one manager who is responsible for the content.

The manager does not have to be the owner of the charity. Her/his relation to the charity is shown as 'worker for', 'supporter' or 'no relation'.

A manager that has no relation, probably added the charity so others could support and evaluate it. This manager can later hand over the management to someone who does work for the charity.

Charity projects
A charity is the organization, what the charity does can be found in the projects.

Who can create a charity page?

Everyone can create a charity page. You can even create a charity page if you don’t work for that charity.

How does Helpalot prevent confusion?

You can set your relation to the charity. You can choose between

  • No relation with this charity
  • I support this charity
  • I work for this charity

So if you just want to make sure a charity is findable on Helpalot, you can add the charity page and put yourself down for 'No relation with this charity'.

What if someone who works for the charity comes along?

You can hand over the keys to someone you trust to know more about the charity.

What are projects?

Projects represent what a charity does. A charity has a minimum of one project.

Support
To show your support of a project, click 'support' on a projectpage. This helps other users to find trustworthy projects.

News
Projects can post news with pictures. Your 'my page' shows an overview of the news of the projects you support.

Evaluations
Every member can write evaluations on projects. Go to a project page and click on 'evaluate'.

Manage
The manager of a charity can ask a friend to help with managing a projectpage.
